Mary E. Herman
Missionary Teacher to Regions Beyond

A Brief Biography

Upon graduation from Southeastern Oklahoma State Uniuersity in 1965, I began my teaching career in Altus, OK.  Since I lived across the state from my parents, each week I received a letter from them.  At the close of Dad's letters, he would write, "Be a good girl and go to church."  God used those few words to convict me, and I found no peace until I received Christ as my Savior, April 7, 1968.

I began serving the Lord at the Tabernacle Baptist Church where J. Hoyt Lemrnon was the pastor.  Within a few months, I surrendered my life to be used of the Lord with one reservation:  I did not want to be a missionary!  God brought me to the understanding that a partial surrender was no surrender at all, and I submitted my future totally into His hands.

September of 1971, found me at Baptist Bible College as a full-time missions student and a part-time teacher.  Within a few months, I was asked to take on more teaching duties and after much prayer and counsel, I realized this was God's direction for my life.  It has been my privilege and my mission to teach at BBC for the past 31 years and to establish and direct the Elementary Education Department.

Missions service has always been in my heart, and I have been serving as a volunteer on various fields since 1993.  It was my plan to continue this during breaks and after retirement, but the Lord has made it clear to me that this was my plan, not His.  I have great peace that He is leading me to serve as a "Missionary Teacher to the Regions Beyond", traveling to different fields to train Sunday school teachers, to teach in the Bible Institutes, and to support the teaching and training efforts of our missionaries.

I am trusting God for the health, wisdom, and financial means to do His will.  Please pray for me as I prepare and go.  I want to leave the people I teach with tools; I want to commit the things I have learned to faithful men and women that they may teach others also.
