Dear Friends,

Several have asked about Chandler and how things are going. Thankfully, the infection is gone. (A Major praise!) Once they removed the cadaver bone it began to clear up and it was contained to that area. PTL He has had 2 surgeries so far and has the tough one on Thursday, Jan. 24. This is when they will insert the wires into the bone and begin the process of stretching the bone several times a day. He needs 7 inches of bone and that is the maximum they can grow on any bone according to the doctors who are treating him. They may have to cut the growth plate on the other leg in order for it to not grow too much longer than this one. Thankfully, he has been an early developer and has a lot of his growth already. As you might imagine, the stretching process is so very painful. IT is literally a process of tearing the bone apart so new cells will develop in the tears. Imagine having that done 4 times a day without anesthesia. This is his second time to go through this and it is his choice to keep his leg.

The prayer needs are:
   No infection from surgery
That the new bone will be strong rather than porous
That he will deal with the pain well
For his family who go through all this with him.

He had received a card from one of you with lots of notes and signatures on it when I spoke with his grandmother, Linda, the other day. He was thrilled and read every note. He has a scrapbook made of all the cards he has received and looks through them often. He has gotten to be at home for a few days between surgeries since the infection is gone.

When I know more, I will get back with you.

Mom is doing well. The surgery line is turning several colors now, but is healing well. Every time I clean and dress it, she remarks, "My goodness, that is a big cut there." She is right. It goes from in her hair above her ear down and into her neck. A good 5 inches or more. She doesn't complain with it other than a little soreness when I clean it or remove the old dressing.
